Clément Jacques

Singer-songwriter

Song – "Ariane" - Now playing...

Bio
Originally from the Saguenay area of Quebec, Clément Jacques got involved in rock bands in high school and studied jazz vocals at Laval University, then got himself a busking permit and began roaming Quebec City’s streets, bars and restaurants with his guitar.

In his early twenties, Jacques became interested in folk music and, with the help of an independent producer, released a five-song EP, Smile for a While (2006), which sold 3,000 copies. After taking part in a songwriting workshop in Los Angeles, he entered the studio with producer Éloi Painchaud (Jorane, Antoine Gratton) to create Consumed and Guilty (2009), a magnificent album that earned rave reviews and was followed by a promotional tour.

Having recently moved to Montreal, Jacques began a new songwriting cycle, this time in French, revolving around love relationships. Again with Painchaud, who co-arranged and co-produced, he released Le Maréographe, a collection of 13 introspective songs chronicling the “emotional tides” of a young man in search of the perfect woman. Playing most of the instruments himself and deeply involved in all aspects of production, Jacques’ first French-language release takes the listener through a deeply melancholy yet hopeful acoustic folk universe, with the help of true-to-life lyrics, compelling vocals and an unquestionable melodic sense. The album’s first single, “Ariane,” was an instant radio hit following its spring 2011 release.
