Jimmy Hunt

Singer-songwriter, guitarist

Song – "Ça va de soi" - Now playing...

Bio
Jimmy Hunt first hit Montreal in the year of the Y2K bug with an electric guitar, a suitcase drum set, and the energy of a one-man band – like a Bob Log III with incredible lyrics, or a Fred Fortin after his Gros Méné musical experiment.

Hunt was then discovered as a singer-songwriter in the band Chocolat when the group’s first EP received critical acclaim. A two-time guest of the Montreal FrancoFolies festival, the group toured Quebec and the U.S. East Coast while their first full-length ecording, Piano élégant, was nominated at the 2008 ADISQ Awards in the Alternative category and won the GAMIQ Award for Best Rock Album.

Leaving rock music behind, Hunt reinvented himself as a crooner with “Pour un infidèle” alongside Cœur de pirate, with whom he shared the stage in various Quebec venues as an opening act or a duettist for that song.

Released in October 2010 on the Grosse Boîte label, Hunt’s self-titled first solo album contains minimalist lyrics dealing with life experiences such as misdirected romance and out-of-control feelings, in a style that straddles the great French chanson and folk traditions, complete with luscious orchestrations that frequently sound like famous film scores. Once again, the rock scene has produced a great mainstream songwriter
