Johanne Provencher

Country singer-songwriter

Song – "Real Country" - Now Playing ...
(co-written with Martine Hudon and Pierre Côté)

Bio
Initially influenced by her parents’ folk and country music, Johanne Provencher started singing and playing guitar in the family band at the age of 13. Her influences include American stars like Johnny Cash, June Carter and Tanya Tucker as well as homegrown country legends such as Willie Lamothe and Soldat Lebrun.

Born into the music business, Provencher -- Album of the Year winner at the 1988 ADISQ Awards -- has evolved musically and lyrically between Fille de cœur, her 2005 Memphis-mixed and Nashville-mastered debut album, and Real Country, her brand new collection, also produced in Tennessee and including a cover version of the Rolling Stones’ "Honky Tonk Women." One hundred percent steeped in country music, the Chambly native, now a Granby resident, has added folk and rock sounds to her music.

After representing Quebec at the Francophone American Cultural Festival on the French Riviera in May 2009, Provencher returned to France this past August for a series of concerts, and found that "people there were intrigued because I was delivering an American-sounding product in French! Country singers from France perform in English because they're looking to the American market, but there I was, singing country music in French and loving it, too. They were amazed."

With more than 800 concerts and 100 television appearances behind her, Provencher is supported by a group of top-notch co-songwriters including Martine Hudon and Pierre Côté.
