SOCAN sponsored and presented the Songwriters of the Year Award to the writers of “Flower Child” at the 2008 British Columbia Country Music Awards (BCCMAs), held Oct. 26 at the Red Robinson Show Theatre in Coquitlam, B.C.

SOCAN’s Sue Irving and SOCAN member Gord Bamford presented the award to family band The Higgins – co-writers Eileen, John, and Kathleen Higgins – and their fourth non-family co-writer of the song, David Wills. The Higgins graciously thanked SOCAN during their acceptance speech.

In addition to Sue Irving, SOCAN attendees from the Vancouver office included Pat Mueller, April Lebedoff, Sara Pavilionis and Michelle Dubuc. Irving was also a member of the 2008 BCCMA awards show committee.
