Six SOCAN members have been recognized as part of Chatelaine magazine’s list of “80 Amazing Canadian Women to Watch,” as published in its 80th anniversary issue (May 2008).
The SOCAN members who made the list are:
- Rose Cousins, the East Coast folk ingénue;
- Elisapie Isaac, an Inuit-raised singer, member of the duo Taima, and filmmaker;
- Casey Mecija, front-woman for the Toronto orchestral pop band Ohbijou;
- Basia Bulat, the London, Ont.-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist;
- Zaki Ibrahim, the Toronto-based urban music creator; and
- Christine Evans, a 17-year-old Christian-pop phenomenon.
Chatelaine has dubbed these women “the country’s most promising stars… the next big thing in their fields… the newsmakers of tomorrow.” SOCAN congratulates all of our members so honoured.
