SOCAN members Gordie Sampson and Lennie Gallant were among the performers who played at The David Foster & Friends Charity Gala and Concert on March 29, 2008, at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax. The concert, part of a weekend of events dubbed “Crescendo,” raised $1.6 million – reportedly the largest amount raised by a single charity event in Atlantic Canada – for the David Foster Foundation. The foundation is a national charity that helps Canadian families by paying non-medical expenses for children who need life-saving organ transplants.
Other performers at the event included Lionel Richie, Natalie Cole, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Jamia Nash, Sinbad, William Joseph, Lea Daniel, Eleanor McCain, Symphony Nova Scotia and former Canadian Idol finalist Craig Sharpe, as well as Foster and his band.
“The level of support from Atlantic Canada has been outstanding,” said Foster. “This will make a huge difference in the lives of Canadian families.”
