Several SOCAN members working as film and television composers were presented with music awards as part of the Craft Gala of the 23rd annual Gémeaux Awards, held at the Montreal Hyatt Regency Hotel on Sept. 10, 2008. Mathieu A. Vanasse won the award for best original music score for a dramatic series for Nos étés, episode 25, while his colleague Claude Fradette was presented with the best original music score for a documentary program for the magnificent film Le peuple invisible.

Vincent Lévesque, Antonin Marquis and Alexander Ortiz, of We Are Wolves, shared the best music theme award for Bazzo.TV, episode 174. The musicians were not on hand to accept their prize as the group was performing on the same night.

The SOCAN Film and Television Account Executives Lyne Lanoue, Karine Melchior and Kathleen Mercier attended the Sept. 10 presentation. A week before, on Sept. 3, SOCAN presented a special dinner for the 2008 Gémeaux finalists in all music categories. "It was the first time we brought all the finalists together," Lyne Lanoue explained, "and it was great! Our members were talking about it at the Awards, and they said it had given them an opportunity to get to meet new colleagues or see old ones again. This helps bring members closer, and one of SOCAN’s roles is to help members at the career level too.”

The second part of the awards presentation was televised live on Radio-Canada Television from 7:30 p.m.on Sunday Sept. 14. For more information and a complete list of winners, please visit the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, Québec Division.
