Young SOCAN member Catherine Major won the Jutra Award for best original film score for Le Ring during the 10th anniversary edition of Quebec's annual film awards presentation. The awards were televised live from Montreal's Canada Broadcasting House on Sunday, March 9, 2008. A visibly moved Major said she was delighted to receive such a distinction for her very first film score, all the more so as she was in competition in that category with such veteran film composers as Normand Corbeil (Ma fille, mon ange), FM Le Sieur (Nitro) and Stéphane Dufour (Les 3 p'tits cochons).
Major, who has garnered several awards since her career-launching win in the Petite-Vallée Festival's singer-songwriter category in 2002, was previously known mainly as a singer-songwriter, and has just released Rose sang, her second album.
