SOCAN Montreal Music Industry Seminar rocks

More than 200 people attended the music industry seminar that SOCAN presented on Oct. 25, 2008, at the Ex-Centris Complex in Montreal. The following major music industry issues were discussed:
- The state of the industry, with Bob Hunka, Los Angeles Representative, SOCAN
- Publishing, with Michael McCarty, President, EMI Publishing Canada, Patrick Curley, Vice-President Legal Affairs, Third Side Music Inc., and Marie-Pierre Brunelle, Account Executive, Radios & Concerts, Membership Department, SOCAN
- Promotion & Marketing, with Nat Merenda, Label Manager, K-Pone Inc., and Kyria Kilakos, Label Manager, Indica Records
- Booking & Touring, with Mikey Bernard, Head Scout, Booker & Artist Liaison, M for Montreal, and André Guérette, Director of Operations, Touring Booking, Blue Skies Turn Black
Comments heard by the SOCAN staff in attendance included "You should be doing this more often," "Great speakers" and "It was nice to get to meet these people at the reception later on."

A lively reception followed the closing event of the day, a group conversation with the well-known SOCAN member Patrick Watson, who shared generously and amiably with a grateful audience.
