Sarah-Hélène Côté was presented with a $1,000 SOCAN-sponsored Best Song Award on June 7, 2008, as part of the Ontario Pop contest, which was revived this spring as La Relance d'Ontario Pop after a three-year hiatus. A 2007 semi-finalist in the singer-songwriter category of the Granby International Song Festival, the Ottawa artist was honoured for her song "Les papillons," and received her award from La ligue du bonheur member Jean-Marc Lalonde. She also qualified for two of the three other prizes being offered, including a free one-day recording session in a Radio-Canada studio and a spot in the semi-finals of the next Granby event.

The day before, SOCAN Relationship Specialist Stéphanie Falco, from the Montreal office, presented an information workshop to the seven competition finalists, explaining the many benefits of a SOCAN membership.

Relance de l’Ontario Pop is an annual contest/showcase celebrating excellence in Francophone pop music in Ontario. The 2008 competition spokesperson, Damien Robitaille, a 2003 finalist in Ontario Pop, described his participation in that event as an "essential experience" in his early development as a singer-songwriter. The new version of the competition is sponsored by the Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM), and this year's event was held in the auditorium of the Béatrice Desloges Catholic High School in Orleans, a suburban district of Ottawa.
