SOCAN members named to Order of Canada

SOCAN member and rock icon Randy Bachman, along with fellow SOCAN members Dominic Champagne, George Elliott Clarke and Ian W. McDougall, are among the latest appointments to the Order of Canada, in an announcement by Governor General Michaëlle Jean coinciding with Canada Day 2008.


The Order of Canada is our country’s highest civilian honour, recognizing lifetime achievement. Bachman and Clarke were named Officers of the Order of Canada, the middle tier of the order, while Champagne and McDougall were named Members of the Order (the lowest tier).The recipients will receive their citations at a later date.


Clarke is a poet, professor and Canadian literary figure;
Champagne is a writer, director, comedian and drama professor; McDougall is a classical/jazz trombonist, composer and educator, and also a former SOCAN Foundation board member.
