Pioneering Acadian singer-songwriter Ron Bourgeois was honoured with a tribute concert at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax on June 7, 2008 – which doubled as a release party for an 18-song album in homage to his songs, J’ai trouvé dans une chanson. Artists performing at the event included such Maritime/Acadian favourites as Blou, Mary Jane Lamond and Teresa Ennis – not to mention Bourgeois himself – all of whom appear on the album. Other artists covering Bourgoeis songs on the album include Mario Pelchat, Innu singer Florent Vollant, Daniel Lavoie and Lennie Gallant.
Each performer in the concert played one of Bourgeois’ songs, as well as two of their own. The man himself was greeted with a standing ovation from the crowd when he took the stage. The biggest cheers were heard when Bourgeois and Teresa Ennis treated the crowd to one of his earliest songs, "Joe LeBlanc" – which has become something of a standard throughout the Acadian community in Atlantic Canada.
Bourgeois was one of the first singer-songwriters in Canada to give voice to Acadian artists with his body of work. Besides establishing a performing and songwriting career, Bourgeois has been a television and radio producer, and organized musical events like Grou Tyme and the Grand Pré Festival. He has also been a mentor to many younger Acadian artists. He released his first recording Amène le Vent (Bring on the Storm) in 1994 and his second Le Long Retour (The Long Way Back) in 2001.
