2009 ADISQ Awards: Ginette Reno is top winner

Many SOCAN members were honoured at the 31st annual ADISQ awards presentation celebrating excellence in Francophone music. The following Félix awards were presented at the Nov. 1 ceremony, which was televised live on Radio-Canada from the St. Denis Theatre in Montreal:

  • Contemporary Folk Album of the Year: La ligne orange, Mes Aïeux
  • Pop Album of the Year: Fais-moi la tendresse, Ginette Reno
  • Pop/Rock Album of the Year: Sentiments humains, Pierre Lapointe
  • Songwriter of the Year: Yann Perreau
  • Group of the Year: Mes Aïeux
  • Female Artist of the Year: Ginette Reno
  • Male Artist of the Year: Nicola Ciccone
  • Revelation of the Year: Cœur de Pirate
  • Concert of the Year – Singer-songwriter: Le volume du vent, Karkwa
  • Concert of the Year – Artist: L'héritage, Renée Martel

The Pop Song of the Year award, which was voted by the public online, was presented to “Fais-moi la tendresse,” written by the French songwriter Didier Barbelivien (SACEM) and performed by the great Ginette Reno, who won additional applause when she told her fans: “I wish to thank all those of you who voted for me. You were right!” Reno also took home the Best-Selling Album of the Year award for Fais-moi la tendresse.

Songwriter of the Year award winner Yann Perreau, who is often described as a “born performer,” said that he was happy “to be recognized for my music instead of my pelvic gyrations.” A number of SOCAN members took part in the awards presentation as much-appreciated guest performers. Stand-up comic Louis-José Houde, who was the evening’s host for the fourth year, brought his special brand of sarcastic, but never cruel humour.

Two earlier awards presentations took place on Oct. 26. The first one, The Industry Awards, was staged in the afternoon at Montreal’s Club Soda. It was followed the same evening by The Other Awards, which was televised by MusiquePlus and MusiqueMax. Altogether, 49 statuettes were presented, including 24 at The Other Awards.
