Crowe, Amero win SOCAN songwriting honours at 2009 CFMAs
Susan Crowe earned English songwriter of the year honours, while the Aboriginal songwriter recognition went to Don Amero, when the two SOCAN-sponsored awards were handed out during the fourth annual Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) ceremonies, held Nov. 21, 2009, in Ottawa. The equivalent French songwriting award went to Catherine Durand.
Joel Plaskett was the only multiple winner of the night, garnering awards for both contemporary album and producer of the year, both for his triple-album set Three. The Halifax-based Plaskett led a Maritime contingent of winners, with fellow Haligonian Crowe earning the aforementioned songwriter honours, and PEI's Catherine MacLellan and Colette Cheverie also being celebrated, as solo artist and traditional singer of the year, respectively.
