Two SOCAN members receive 2009 Gémeaux Awards for television

Composers Frédéric Bégin and Robert Marcel Lepage were honoured at the 2009 Gémeaux Awards Craft and Documentary presentation on Sept. 17 in Montreal. Bégin won in both the Best Musical Theme – All Categories, for Episode 16 of Les étoiles filantes, and the Best Original Score for a Dramatic Program category, for Episode 22 of the same series. Lepage, who was unable to attend, won in the Best Original Music Score for a Documentary Program category for Le Magicien de Kaboul. The Montreal Hyatt Regency event was attended by a large number of television, Internet and new media craftspeople and artists. SOCAN was represented at the event by Film & Television Account Executives Lyne Lanoue, Kathleen Mercier and Karine Melchior, and by the Quebec Division Member Services Manager Joanne Pouliot.


On Sept. 16, SOCAN presented a special luncheon at Le Petit Moulinsart Restaurant in Montreal for the SOCAN member Quebec finalists. It was attended by Gémeaux Awards nominees Robert Marcel Lepage, Frédéric Bégin, Sylvain Grand and FM LeSieur; Gemini Awards nominees James Gelfand and Éric Lemoyne; SOCAN’s former president, the AV composer Pierre-Daniel Rheault; and SOCAN employees Joanne Pouliot, Lyne Lanoue, Kathleen Mercier and Karine Melchior.
