SOCAN members get up to 50% discount registrations for CMW; SOCAN participates in CMW panels
SOCAN members who register on or before March 5, 2010, for the 2010 edition of Canadian Music Week (CMW) will get a 30 percent discount off the regular rate to attend the Toronto-based conference. The discount rate is $521.50 (CDN) for the Executive Music badge. CMW is scheduled for March 10-14, 2010. SOCAN members will also receive a 50 percent discount off the regular rate to attend the day-long, SOCAN-sponsored CMW Songwriters' Summit on March 13, 2010. The discount rate is $75 (CDN), and membjers need only use the discount code SOCAN10CMW when purchasing tickets online at the CMW website's registration page.
During the Songwriters' Summit, SOCAN will take part in two panels: Our VP Legal Services and general counsel Paul Spurgeon will participate in a session called "New Music Licensing Deals and How They Affect Songwriters and Music Publishers," from 10-11 a.m. in Salon B at the host hotel, the Fairmont Royal York; and SOCAN education & outreach manager Rodney Murphy will moderate a session called "Life of a Song: Mars Bonfire's 'Born to Be Wild'," from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Salon A of the host hotel. The panel will feature a rare public appearance by the reclusive songwriter Bonfire, discussing his immensely popular and enduring hit song.
Also, SOCAN education & outreach manager Terry O'Brien will moderate a SOCAN panel called " Rights & Royalties: How Songwriters & Music Publishers Get Paid," on Friday, March 12, from 2:45 - 3:45 p.m. in Salon A of the host hotel.
