Daniel Licht, who scores the Showtime series Dexter, gave a film composing seminar at Vancouver's Simon Fraser University, on March 9, 2010. The event was presented by the Guild of Canadian Film Composers (GCFC), and offered Licht's insights into the scoring process, drawing on his extensive background in both film and TV scoring, with an original approach and a great dedication to his craft.

Licht discussed how the soundtrack is from the protagonist's point of view, and pointed out that in the case of Dexter, the protagonist also happens to be a serial killer. He talked about using different instruments to create the music, including an actual bone with notches cut into it. Licht also showed off his studio, and eagerly answered questions from the audience, which included SOCAN members and film composers Graeme Coleman, Terry Frewer, Dan Ingram, Jeff Toyne, Brent Belke, Mike Thomas, Chris Ainscough and John Sereda.

Attending from SOCAN were Sara Pavilionis and Pat Mueller, underscoring SOCAN's support of its film and TV membership, as well as the GCFC and its education initiatives.
