SOCAN was pleased to honour the four members of Hedley, and their two co-writers, with a No. 1 Song Award for “Don't Talk to Strangers,” which reached the top spot on the Much More Music Countdown chart on Feb. 5, 2010.
SOCAN board member Craig Horton presented the No. 1 Award plaques to Hedley’s Jacob Hoggard, Dave Rosin, Tommy Mac and Chris Crippin at Vancouver’s Shebeen Whiskey House on March 1, 2010. Engineer Jay Van Poederooyen and producer Brian Howes, both of whom co-wrote the song with the band, were also honoured. (In addition, Howes was given a second plaque for writing Hedley's chart-topping song, "Cha Ching.")
All of the band members – still excited from their performance at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies the night before – were very appreciative, thanking SOCAN for celebrating their success, as well as taking care of them day-to-day. SOCAN's Lynn Ross and Michelle Dubuc attended the event.
The award-winning songs are published by High Buck Publishing / EMI Blackwood Music Ltd. Canada, and Universal Music Publishing Canada.
