SOCAN members win 2010 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards
Five SOCAN members were honoured in the musical award categories at the 2010 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards, presented by Music and Film in Motion (MFM) May 1 in the Great Hall at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ont. The award ceremony recognizes the efforts and showcases the talent of the Northern Ontario’s music and film industries by featuring award presentations, live performances and movie clips.
Cindy Doire won Best Album by a Solo Artist for Chapeau de pluie, while Best Album by a Duo or Group went to Suzana Da Camara for Proof Of Love. Da Camara also took home the trophy for Best Songwriter, for "Il n’y a qu’un homme," which she co-wrote with Mike Dell and Randall Savoy. Faye Blais was recognized for Best Vocal Performance on a Recording, for "Canvas."
As part of the conference weekend, SOCAN presented a panel, moderated by SOCAN education & outreach manager Rodney Murphy, entitled, "I Write the Songs and I Pay the Bills: Songwriting Royalties and Revenue Streams." Panelists included Sebastien Grainger (songwriter), Rob Lanni (of artist management company Coalition Entertainment) and Cheryl Link (of publisher Peermusic).
