Analia Llugdar receives Opus Award for Composer of the Year

The 13th annual Opus Awards, celebrating performing, composing, musicological, producing and broadcasting excellence in Quebec concert music, were held Jan. 31, 2010, in the Claude Champagne Hall in Montreal. The Life Achievement Award was presented to the multiple award-winning composer Jacques Hétu, winner of the Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award for the eighth year at last November’s SOCAN Awards in Montreal.


The young composer Analia Llugdar, also the winner of many awards for her work, was honoured in the Composer of the Year category. Opus Awards were presented to four additional SOCAN members in the following categories:


  • Yves Daoust: Premiere of the Year, for Chorals ornés;
  • Oliver Jones: Concert of the Year – Jazz and World Music, for Jazzmen québécois;
  • Nicolas Bernier: Recording of the Year – New Music, Electroacoustic Music, for Les arbres; and
  • Julie Lamontagne: Recording of the Year – Jazz, World Music, for Now What.
