The Peak Peformance Project awarded three British Columbia bands a total of $275,000 on Jan. 22, 2010, at the Commodore ballroom in Vancouver. We Are The City won $150,000 for career development, while The Left finished second and won $75,000, followed by Bend Sinister, who finished third and won $50,000.
This was the first year for the Peak Peformance Project, a seven-year, $5.29 million contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver rock radio station 100.5 The PEAK and provincial organization Music BC to develop British Columbia-based emerging artists.
Each year, 20 finalists receive an intensive one-week training program in the music business, as well as live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion. Artists benefit from mentorships from some of the music industry’s top professionals and performers. All of these artists have the chance to perform live in Vancouver on the PEAK Performance Stage. Of these 20 artists, five record professional demos to be released under the project. From these, the top three are crowned each year as the PEAK Performers of the year.
