Pierre Alexandre Tremblay nominated for RPS Music Award

Quebec composer Pierre Alexandre Tremblay is among the shortlisted nominees for the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Music Awards in the Chamber-Scale Composition category for his work un clou, son marteau, et le béton. Tremblay, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham, teaches composition and improvisation at the University of Huddersfield. He released his first electroacoustic album on the DIGITALes label in 2006 and the same year, released his sixth album with ensemble [iks], with whom he has toured extensively. He is also a member of ars circa musicć (from noise to free jazz, punk rock and contemporary music) and de type inconnu (a two-guitar and two-laptop duet).


The RPS Music Awards are the highest recognition for live classical music in the United Kingdom. These independent awards were set up in 1989 to celebrate the outstanding musical achievements of both young and established British and International musicians. The names of the 2010 winners will be announced May 11 at a gala dinner held in the Dorchester Hotel in London, England. The Royal Philharmonic Society (founded in 1813) is dedicated to the promotion of new classical music.
