Jean-Marie Benoît dies
Guitarist, composer and SOCAN member Jean-Marie Benoît died the week of August 3, 2009, from a heart attack. He was 54.
Benoît scored such popular Quebec productions as Seducing Doctor Lewis, The Haven, Cruising Bar 2, Louis the 19th, King of the Airwaves and Jesus of Montreal, and appeared in Lewis Furey's Night Magic (1985), on the soundtrack for which he played guitar.
Benoît also worked with such Quebec music luminaries as Robert Charlebois, Ginette Reno, Diane Dufresne, Roch Voisine, Céline Dion, Édith Butler and Garou, as well as with Starmania and Cirque du Soleil.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television recognized his work by presenting him with three awards for Achievement in Music – Original Score.
