Nancy Breau receives SOCAN Best Song Award at Caraquet gala

Singer-songwriter Nancy Breau was presented with the SOCAN Best Song Award July 31, 2009, at the 41st annual Gala de la chanson de Caraquet, N.B., for her song "Une seule âme" ("Only One Soul"). The SOCAN member, who also won in the Best Singer-Songwriter category, received her award from Christian Kit Goguen, who performed the winning song during the show and enthusiastically described SOCAN’s role to the Carrefour de la mer audience. The event’s other top winner, André-Philippe Paulin from Tracadie-Sheila, N.B., took home the Best Performer and the Public awards.
The 2009 Gala spokesperson was singer-songwriter Annie Blanchard, with another well-known Acadian artist, Jean-François Breau, as artistic director. The artists invited to perform during the evening included Blanchard and the 2008 winner in the Singer-Songwriter category, Émilie Bernard.
