SOCAN member Clinton Shorter wins award for District 9 score
Vancouver-based SOCAN member and film and TV composer Clinton Shorter won a 2009 Hollywood Music In Media Award (HMMA) for best original film score, for his work on the hit sci-fi action thriller District 9. The HHMAs were presented Nov. 19, 2009, at The Highlands, in the Hollywood & Highlands / Kodak Theater complex in Los Angeles.
"There's a lot of technology in the film, and we really wanted that to be represented in the score, too," Shorter told the website Tracksounds! just days prior to the release of the movie. "So it's a hybrid score for sure, of orchestra and synths, which is right up my alley."
District 9 was a big career break for Shorter, who has had close ties for several years with Peter Jackson's protégé Neill Blomkamp, who directed the film. A prolific and versatile composer, Shorter is currently busy working on several other projects.
The Hollywood Music in Media Awards recognizes and honours music in visual media, the talented individuals responsible for it, and the music of both mainstream and independent artists from around the globe, for their compositions and recordings in all forms of media, including film, TV, video games, commercial advertisements, movie trailers and music videos.
