SOCAN member Burton Cummings is among seven inductees in 2011 who'll receive a star on Canada's Walk of Fame before a tribute show and gala ceremony on Oct. 1 at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto (to be broadcast nationally at a later date that month on the Global and Slice networks).

Few artists have achieved the success and critical acclaim that Cummings has enjoyed in a career spanning more than 40 years. Whether as lead singer and songwriter with the Guess Who or on his own, Cummings has amassed an astonishing number of hit singles, including “These Eyes,” "Laughing," "No Sugar Tonight," “No Time,” “American Woman,” “Stand Tall” and “My Own Way To Rock.” One of the most celebrated rock artists in Canadian music history, Cummings is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame; Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame; Canada’s Walk of Fame with the Guess Who; Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame; and Prairie Music Hall of Fame. He's also a six-time Juno Award winner and a recipient of the Order of Canada; the Order of Manitoba; the Governor General’s Performance Arts Award; and no less than 22 SOCAN Awards. He's earned the first U.S. platinum album by a Canadian artist with the Guess Who, and on his own, the first quadruple-platinum Canadian-produced album. Altogether, Cummings has earned some 80 gold and platinum record awards.

Canada's Walk of Fame annually recognizes individuals for their achievements in various fields, including music, sport, film and television, science and innovation, in addition to the arts: literary, visual and performing. Other honourees for 2011 are astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar; tennis player Daniel Nestor; actress Sandra Oh; comedian Russell Peters; actor Ryan Reynolds; and, posthumously, author Mordecai Richler.
