The organizing committee for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games has appointed SOCAN member and veteran composer Dave Pierce as music director for the event. Pierce will be involved in creating music for the Opening, Closing and nightly Victory Ceremonies at the games.

Pierce’s extensive credits include musical theatre, sporting and cultural events, commercial recordings and live spectacles. A resident of Calgary, he’s adapted scores for several hit Broadway national tours and was recently commissioned to compose a new work for Queen Elizabeth II.

In related news, the organizing committee has also appointed three seasoned Canadian music industry representatives as headline talent producers for the games: Sam Feldman of Macklam /Feldman Management and S.L. Feldman & Associates; Bruce Allen of Bruce Allen Talent; and Dan Fraser of Nettwerk Management.
