David Myles earns five ECMA 2011 nominations; SOCAN sponsors songwriter award
David Myles leads the nominations for the 2011 East Coast Music Awards, with five including nods for Entertainer and Folk Recording of the Year (for Turn Time Off). Seven artists – Christina Martin, Dave Gunning, Lennie Gallant, Slowcoaster, The Stanfields, The Trews and Wintersleep – received four nominations each.
The nominees for the SOCAN-sponsored Songwriter of the Year award are
• Lennie Gallant for “Emily’s Letters”
• Chris Kirby for “Entertainer of the Year”
• Jenn Grant and Buck 65 for “Paper Airplanes”
• the members of Wintersleep (Paul Murphy, Tim D’Eon, Loel Campbell and Michael Bigelow) for “Preservation”
• Meaghan Smith for “I Know”
• Rose Cousins for “I Were the Bird”
The ECMA Awards gala is set for April 17 in Hoburg Theatre, at Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, P.E.I. For a complete list of nominees visit the ECMA website.
During the East Coast Music Week conference (April 13-17) leading up to the awards show, SOCAN’s Rodney Murphy is moderating an international case study panel on touring Germany, on April 15 in the Consbrook Room at the host hotel, the Delta Prince Edward. Featured panelists include Shain Shapiro (Canadian Independent Music Association) and Philipp Jacob (A.S.S. Concert & Promotion GmbH). And on April 17, also at the host hotel, SOCAN presents a songwriters’ circle with performers Rose Cousins, Lennie Gallant, Jenn Grant, Brooke Miller, Jessica Rhaye and a special SOCAN guest TBA.
