Two members of the ragga group Mad’MoiZèle Giraf won the $1,000 SOCAN Best Song Award – for "Sub su'a job" – presented Apr. 27, 2009, as part of the 13th annual Francouvertes competition. Co-writers Ian C. Lettre and Philippe Messier received their award from event spokesperson Damien Robitaille (winner of the same award in 2005), before a packed audience at Montreal’s Club Soda. The evening’s top winner was the rock group Ariel.
Besides providing young artists with an opportunity to perform in a professional setting, network in the music industry and reach a new audience, the Francouvertes competition offers a number of awards to its top winner as well as to other successful competitors. SOCAN was represented at the 2009 event by the Membership Department education and industry relations specialist Stéphanie Falco.
