Gilles Tremblay receives three Opus Awards including Composer of the Year

Gilles Tremblay received three awards, including Composer of the Year, at the 14th annual Opus Awards in Montreal.

The 14th annual Opus Awards celebrating performing, composing, musicological, producing and broadcasting excellence in Quebec concert music were held Jan. 30, 2011, in Claude Champagne Hall in Montreal. The Composer of the Year Award was presented to SOCAN member Gilles Tremblay, whose numerous industry honours include SOCAN’s 2010 Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award. His other two 2011 Opus Awards are Premiere of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for his “fairy-tale opera” L'eau qui danse, la pomme qui chante et l'oiseau qui dit la vérité.

Opus Awards were presented to four additional SOCAN members in the following categories:

• Alain Lefebvre: Concert of the Year – Regional, for Coups de cœur
• Jean-François Denis, Artistic Director of the Year
• Christine Jensen and the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra: Recording of the Year – Jazz, for Treelines
• Rafael Zaldivar: Discovery of the Year.
