John McCarthy, Dr. Shiva win 2009 musical Genie Awards

SOCAN member John McCarthy and Dr. Shiva (a.k.a. Dr. Ramier Siva-Nandan, unaffiliated) were the winners in the music categories of the 29th annual edition of the Genie Awards, honouring the best in the Canadian film industry. Winners were celebrated in a gala ceremony on April 4, 2009, at The Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa.


McCarthy earned the best original score award for his contribution to the movie The Stone Angel, based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Laurence. Dr. Shiva took the best original song honours for "Rahi Nagufta," which appeared in the movie Amal.
