On Sept. 10, 2011, New Brunswick singer-songwriter Cédric Vieno received the SOCAN Best Song Award for his song “Éloïse” as part of the 43rd annual Granby International Song Festival, held Sept. 7-17. SOCAN member Bernard Adamus, whose impressive list of awards includes SOCAN’s 2009 ECHO Songwriting Prize, presented the honour as part of the competition semi-finals in Granby’s Palace Theatre.

Besides its Best Song Award, SOCAN also supports this festival by sponsoring the Carrefour chanson SOCAN, a series of training sessions for semi-final contestants. Education & Outreach Specialist Stéphanie Falco hosted a training session on Sept. 2, and also attended the SOCAN Award presentation. The finals of the 2011 festival were held on Sept. 17 at a gala presentation hosted by the dynamic Normand Brathwaite and starring Jimmy Hunt.
