SOCAN’s Tim Hardy presented a “SOCAN 101” information session, and offered a second presentation during a music industry dinner, at the fourth Harmony Bazaar Festival of Women and Song, held July 24-26, 2009, in Lockeport, Nova Scotia.

The festival, which celebrates East Coast women songwriters and performers, kicked off July 24 with a songwriters' circle featuring Christine Crawford, Gina Symonds, Norma MacDonald and Katelyn Surette, followed by performances from SOCAN members Irish Mythen and Melanie Doane. Hampered by inclement weather, these events were moved from the outdoor stages on the festival grounds to the indoor surroundings of the Lockeport Fire Hall.

The weather improved the next day, which included workshops on making a CD (featuring Christine Crawford & Tim Feswick); taking your music international (featuring Madison Violet); balancing motherhood and a career in music (featuring Melanie Doane); and songwriting for novices and professionals alike (featuring Irish Mythen, Katelyn Surette and Tim Hardy’s SOCAN information session). All participants in the workshops mentioned the importance of SOCAN in one’s career, and the support that the SOCAN Foundation offers for international showcasing.

Saturday evening started with a music industry dinner, which included presentations by Krista Keough from Music Nova Scotia, Waye Mason from the Halifax Pop Explosion and Hardy. The Saturday evening mainstage performances included SOCAN members Christina Martin, Madison Violet and Rita MacNeil.

Sunday performances included a youth stage, as well as a mainstage performance by 14-year-old SOCAN member Molly Thomason, who recently released her debut album Through the Static -- the first single from which, "Kiss Me," recently hit No. 1 on the East Coast Countdown.
