Singer-songwriter, comedian, actor and former senator Jean Lapointe will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Soirée des Jutra, the Quebec film industry’s annual awards of excellence, for his career contributions as a screen actor. Still very active on the Quebec cultural scene, his most memorable film roles include the true-to-life character of Clermont Boudreau in Michel Brault’s 1974 film The Orders, winner of the 1975 Cannes Film Festival award for Best Direction. He also garnered a Jutra and a Genie Award for his role in Érik Canuel’s The Last Tunnel (2004), and most recently starred in Robin Aubert’s Crying Out (2010). A singer-songwriter boasting a 50-year career, Lapointe, a SOCAN member, is poised to reunite with his former partner in the hugely popular duet Les Jérolas (Jérôme Lemay) for a Quebec tour beginning next summer. Lapointe is an Officer of the National Order of Quebec and of the Order of Canada.

The 13th annual Soirée des Jutra honouring excellence in Quebec film will be televised live by Radio-Canada on March 13, 2011.
