SOCAN was a proud corporate sponsor of the 13th annual LEO Awards celebrating excellence in British Columbia film and television over the course of two nights in Vancouver. The honours were presented in a Celebration Awards Ceremony at Club 560 on June 8, 2011, and a Gala Awards Ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on June 11, 2011. Our members walked away with several musical honours.

Prizes were awarded as follows:
          • Best Musical Score in a Feature Length Drama to Schaun Tozer for Fathers & Sons
          • Best Musical Score in a Short Drama to Benjamin Schuetze for The Paris Quintet – Practice Makes Perfect
          • Best Musical Score in a Documentary Program or Series to Schaun Tozer once again, for Mighty Jerome
          • Best Musical Score in an Animation Program or Series to Viviane Houle and Stefan Smulovitz for The Trembling Veil of Bones

It was the first year the LEOs were held in these new venues, and while one of the Vancouver Canucks' Stanley Cup hockey games proved quite distracting during the first ceremony, the second ran more smoothly, as guests were treated to Hal Beckett conducting the Vancouver Film Orchestra in performances throughout the evening.

The LEO Awards offer an excellent opportunity for SOCAN members who work in film and television to celebrate their accomplishments and network with producers, directors and local industry players. Other SOCAN members in attendance included John Sereda, Christopher Nickel, Lesley Sutherland, Kevin Hamilton, Matthew Rogers and Ari Wise. SOCAN staff in attendance – who cheered on the nominees and congratulated the winners – were Pat Mueller and Sara Pavilionis.
