SOCAN was proud and pleased to recently take part in "Live and Interactive," an event focused on educating high school music students on both the the craft and the business of songwriting and performing, presented by Higher Ground MusicWorks – an organization committed to helping children and youth discover their gift through composition and performance. "Live and Interactive" was held March 2, 2011, at Brampton Christian School, and was attended by more than 100 students from the host school, St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary School and St. Roch Catholic Secondary School.

SOCAN Education & Outreach Manager Rodney Murphy gave a multi-media presentation explaining how the organization gets performance royalties into the hands of songwriters. Pop band Low level Flight played a live concert for the youths, some of whom performed as well. Scott Lale, the Artistic Director of Rose Theatre, helped the students from St. Roch with preperatory exercises to approach the stage, with relaxation and focus benign the key components. Students from St. Edmund shared the collaborations that they've created with each other, in composition and recording, using the Logic computer program.

Other participants included Joanne Setterington of media and entertainment industry public relations company Indoor Recess, and Carl Merenick, Owner and Executive Director of Higher Ground.
