Jannick Brière, a singer-songwriter from Gatineau, Quebec, won the $1,000 SOCAN Best Song Award at the 13^th annual Découvertes de la chanson de Magog on Oct. 11 in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. She received her award from this year’s festival spokesperson, Alexandre Poulin, for her song "Découvre-moi." During the week leading up to the event’s four gala presentations, this year’s 32 semi-finalists worked with three professional coaches, received personal training, took part in jam sessions and a workshop/conference, and were given an opportunity to work in a professional studio.

All performances in the 2009 competition, which included youth and adult components, were staged at the Vieux Clocher, Magog’s flagship venue
