Veteran music publisher and SOCAN board member Michael McCarty has been named president of ole, one of the world's largest independent music publishers, with operations in Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto. McCarty comes to ole with more than 20 years’ experience in music publishing, most recently as president of EMI Publishing Canada -- a position he held for 15 years. McCarty, who started on July 6, 2009, will oversee the company's day-to-day operations from ole’s head office in Toronto.
Chairman and CEO of ole, Robert Ott, said, “We are fortunate to add an executive of [Michael's] experience and integrity to our operation. He is a bona fide music publisher with a real passion for songs and creative development, and we look forward to his contribution to ole’s continued growth.” McCarty himself says, “I am thrilled to be joining [ole], and look forward to the challenge of leading their dynamic team.”
McCarty has played a key role in the development of the careers of such artists and songwriters as Sum 41, Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, City and Colour, Esthero, Gavin Brown, Wilson-Phillips, Matthew Good, Lukas Rossi, Moist and Len, and was involved in the direct signing of Nelly Furtado to an American deal. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA), the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA), and was a founding director of the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
