Leila, a group from Sudbury, Ont., received the SOCAN Best Song Award on June 17, 2010, for “Venin,” a song written by the songwriter and group’s singer Leila Reguigui. The $1,000 prize was presented by the evening’s host, SOCAN member Stef Paquette, at the final of the Ontario POP competition, held for the first time in Sudbury’s Thorneloe University Theatre. The event spokesperson was the Sudbury group Konflit, who played during the show to an enthusiastic response.

Relationship Specialist Stéphanie Falco, from the Montreal SOCAN office, presented a workshop for all 2010 Ontario POP contestants on June 18.

The Ontario POP competition showcasing Franco-Ontarian excellence and talent is presented by the Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique. For more information, visit the APCM site.
