Francophone SOCAN members from the Ottawa region attended a special Music Publishing, Artist Management and Songwriting Seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at the Cégep de l’Outaouais in Gatineau, Quebec. Instructors included artist manager and music publisher Geneviève Côté (Frilance Musique), who drew on her personal experiences and career, and Ian Kelly, whose topics included his creative process and development as a professional songwriter. Presentations were also made by SOCAN Licensing Department Relationship Specialist Yanik Hardy on licensing, and SOCAN Member Services Training and Industry Relations Specialist Stéphanie Falco on public performance royalty distributions to SOCAN members. Each year, SOCAN takes part in a variety of sponsorships, training seminars and workshops, and partnerships contributing to the success and education of its songwriter, lyricist, composer and music publisher members.
