Planet Québec special event planned for SXSW 2011

A sizable contingent of Quebec SOCAN members are slated to perform at the upcoming South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, to be held in Austin, Texas, March 11-20, 2011. They'll perform as part of a special event called Planet Québec, a four-day showcase featuring such notable Quebec acts as Karkwa, Malajube, Braids, The Dears, Suuns, Crabe, The Luyas, No Joy, Grimes, Sean Nicholas Savage, A-Trak, Chromeo, Random Recipe, Miracle Fortress, Valleys, Winter Gloves, Red Mass, Emilie Clepper, Little Scream, Meta Gruau, Bran Van 3000, Handclaps and more.

Planet Québec, organized by M for Montréal, POP Montreal and the Montreal International Jazz Festival, will be held at Austin’s Club Spill. The event will also include a round table on the Montreal music scene, "Smoked-Meat Poutine: The Montreal Special Sauce," that will be moderated by M for Montreal’s Patrice Caron with panelists POP Montreal’s Dan Seligman and Spectra’s Laurent Saulnier.

As usual, SOCAN will participate in SXSW by co-sponsoring the annual Canadian Blast BBQ & Showcase on March 16 at Brush Square, and co-hosting its annual boat cruise around Town Lake on March 17.
