Enter your song now in Playlist for the Planet contest

The David Suzuki Foundation is calling on all Canadian songwriters to compose environmentally themed songs in support of a clean, healthy and sustainable world, and enter them in its Playlist for the Planet contest. The deadline is midnight August 15, 2010, and songwriters are invited to upload their songs on the CBC Radio 3 website.

At the end of the summer, fans will vote for their favourite songs, and the writers and performers of those songs will join artists like Joel Plaskett, Broken Social Scene and Bruce Cockburn on a Playlist for the Planet compilation album released by Universal Music. One lucky songwriter will also win a Gibson guitar from Long & McQuade (made from sustainable wood).

Playlist for the Planet marks the 20th anniversary of the David Suzuki Foundation and already features some of Canada's finest songwriters, including the aforementioned artists, as well as K-os, Gordon Lightfoot and Tanya Tagaq.

"I believe that an 'environmental anthem' can help bring the overwhelming public support for the environment to its rightful place," says Suzuki on the Playlist for the Planet website. "Together, we can inspire thousands of Canadians to gather around song... When the dust clears, I hope we emerge with an anthem that we can all sing along to."
