The Man of a Thousand Songs, a feature-length documentary film about acclaimed singer-songwriter and SOCAN member Ron Hynes, will have its world premiere at the 35th annual edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, which takes place from Sept. 9-19, 2010.

The documentary follows the legendary Hynes, frequently referred to as “The Man of a Thousand Songs,” on a darkly humorous, engaging journey of self-exploration. As it investigates the irony of Hynes being an immensely talented but little-known “legend,” the documentary presents a startling journey through the mind and music of one of Canada’s most influential songwriters.

Hynes’ career spans more than 30 years. The winner of SOCAN's National Achievement Award in 2008, he’s also a six-time East Coast Music Award winner, a Genie Award winner, and he’s taken home both the Artist of the Year and the Arts Achievement awards from the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council. Since the start of his musical career on the coffeehouse circuit in the 1970s, Hynes has brought songs of humour and courage, loss and love to devoted audiences across Canada. His songs have been covered by dozens of artists, including Emmylou Harris, Prairie Oyster, The Good Brothers and Shaye.
