SOCAN was pleased to honour Shawn Desman for co-writing his hit song “Electric/A Night Like This,” which topped the MuchMusic Countdown chart Jan. 20, 2011, and also reached the peak position on the MuchMoreMusic Countdown chart Jan. 28, 2011.

Jodie Ferneyhough, from SOCAN's Board of Directors, presented SOCAN member Desman with his No. 1 Award plaque on March 16, 2011, at Sassafraz restaurant in downtown Toronto's chic Yorkville district. SOCAN's Jason Belo, Ted Seto, Vicki Walters, and Irene Zeltway also attended the presentation, as did members of Desman's family (including his brother Danny Fernandes, also SOCAN member), as well as representatives from Desman's record label, Universal Music Canada, and his management group, Firebox Management.

The song was co-written by Swedish songwriters Hugo, and Escobar Lira, Thomas Gustafsson and Toodeshki Djafari (all STIM) and Ian Lira (unaffiliated). It's published by SOCAN publisher member Nettwerk One Music Canada (which will receive its own plaque at a later date, in Vancouver), Uomo Publishing (unaffiliated), Warner Tamerlane Publishing Co. (BMI), as well as Applepie Songs and Even More Songs (both STIM).
