SOCAN honours members Simon Wilcox, esthero, Mychael Danna

Simon Wilcox, esthero and Mychael Danna were among a number of Los Angeles-based SOCAN members who gathered at the restaurant Ca Del Sole in L.A. on April 23, 2009, allowing SOCAN executives Kent Sturgeon and France Lafleur, and SOCAN L.A. representative Bob Hunka, a chance to honour their latest achievements.


Wilcox earned a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award for her co-write on the Trews single "Man of Two Minds," which reached the top spot on the MuchMoreMusic Countdown on Nov. 21, 2008. The song was co-written by the Trews’ songwriting brothers (and SOCAN members) Colin and John MacDonald, and is co-published by EMI April Music Canada Ltd. and Hypnotizing Boogie Publishing.


Esthero received a No. 1 Song Award for her co-write on the Kanye West single "Love Lockdown," which reached the peak on the MuchMoreMusic Countdown on Jan. 23, 2009. The song is co-written by Jeffrey Bhasker (BMI), Laneah Menzies (N/A), Kanye West (BMI) and Malik Yusef (N/A), and is co-published by Above The Line (BMI), EMI April Music Canada Ltd., EMI Blackwood Music Inc. (BMI), Jabriel Iz Myne (ASCAP), Please Gimme My Publishing Inc. (BMI), and Stinkyminky Music (ASCAP).


Mychael Danna received SOCAN's 2008 Domestic Feature Film Award for his score in the feature film Fracture, starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. His brother Jeff Danna, who co-composed the score, received his award when he attended the Toronto SOCAN Awards in November 2008.
