Alec Harrison wins SOCAN-sponsored honour at 2009 AMPIA Awards

Alec Harrison won the SOCAN-sponsored honour for Best Original Musical Score – Drama at the 35th annual Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) Awards, held May 2, 2009, at Northland’s AgriCom in Edmonton. Harrison, unable to attend the event, won for his score to the film In Translation, produced by enriguePoe Moving Pictures.
The winner of the Best Original Musical Score – Non-Fiction went to Dewi Wood for his work on The Real Place, produced by the National Film Board of Canada.
The awards were hosted by Jill Belland (CityTV Calgary) and Mark Connolly (CBC-TV Edmonton), with music provided by DJ Nitro and DJ bigD. SOCAN members in attendance included Mike Shields, Bruce Leitl, Dewi Wood and Beau Shiminsky. SOCAN's Sara Pavilionis was also in attendance.
