SOCAN member Nelly Furtado is among seven inductees in 2010 for The Canada Honours, and will receive a star on Canada's Walk of Fame before a tribute show and gala ceremony on Oct. 16, 2010, at the Canon Theatre in Toronto (to be broadcast at a later date on the Global and Slice networks).

Furtado's first album Whoa, Nelly!, released in 2000, reached platinum status several times over, garnering four Grammy nominations and winning her the 2002 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "I'm Like a Bird." Her second album, Folklore, was released in 2003, followed by the release of Loose in 2006. The latter album produced the instant hit song "Promiscuous Girl," which earned her the number one spot at the Billboard Hot 100. Furtado's fourth release, Mi Plan, was recorded completely in Spanish. She has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Canada's Walk of Fame annually recognizes individuals for their achievements in various fields, including music, sport, film and television, science and innovation, in addition to the arts: literary, visual and performing. Other honourees for 2010 are SOCAN member Sarah Polley (for her acting, directing and screenwriting); singer-songwriter and musician David Clayton-Thomas (BMI); magician Doug Henning (receiving the award posthumously); speed skater Clara Hughes; actor Eric McCormack (best known for his multiple-award-winning role on the situation comedy Will & Grace); and legendary Canadian author Farley Mowat.
