Alex Nevsky was presented with a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award Prize for “Polaroid” – a co-write with SOCAN members Gabriel Gratton and Mathieu Laliberté – backstage during the La Voix Junior concert, presented at Montréal’s Bell Centre on Dec. 18, 2016. Guillaume Lafrance, representing the song’s publisher Editorial Avenue, also received a commemorative plaque. SOCAN’s Chief of Québec Affairs, Geneviève Côté, was on hand to give Nevsky (accompanied by his nephew) and Lafrance (accompanied by his daughter) the awards in between the two shows scheduled that day.

“Polaroid” has been on the BDS Top 100 for the last 28 weeks, including the last 27 in the Top Five (!) and also topped the Correspondants chart in August 2016.

The first single from Nevsky’s latest album, Nos Eldorados, the song – released in the fall – did exactly what it was intended to do, as the singer-songwriter told Paroles & Musique in a recent interview: “I knew ‘Polaroid’ would be a hit and that radio stations would follow. When it started climbing up the charts, it relieved a great amount of stress. It allowed me to veer off and try other stuff.”

In early 2017, Nevsky will start touring all over Québec for his first 20-odd shows of the year, including one at Québec City’s Impérial (March 9) and at Montréal’s M Telus (March 11) during the Montréal en Lumière festival.
