A total of 43 awards were presented as part of ADISQ’s First Gala and Industry Gala on Thursday, Oct.  26, 2017, in Montréal. Among the SOCAN member award recipients were, of course, the talented Klô Pelgag, who took home the Félix Award for Album of the Year – Alternative, as well as the prestigious Album of the Year – Critics’ Choice Award, both for L’Étoile thoracique. These two awards and the one presented to Sylvain Deschamps, her album producer, are placing the SOCAN Songwriting Prize 2017 winner in a good position ahead of the main ADISQ Gala ceremony to be held Sunday evening, Oct. 29, 2017.

Two Félix trophies were awarded posthumously to Leonard Cohen for his final album, You Want It Darker –one for Anglophone Album of the Year and one for Québec Artist Having Achieving the Most Success Outside Québec. The Rock Album of the Year honour was presented to Chocolat (a group that gave a hot performance as part of the Télé-Québec televised ceremony). The Folk Album of the Year trophy was presented to Avec pas d’casque for their Effets spéciaux album. In the World Music category, the Félix was presented to Samito; Sylvain Garneau, father of the singer-songwriter Yoan, won in the Country category for La clé du bonheur, and Andrea Lindsay collected the Jazz Album of the Year Award for Entre le jazz et la java.

Beside Chocolat, the large contingent of SOCAN performers featured at the Gala, hosted by Sébastien Diaz, included Vincent Vallières, Bobby Bazini, Peter Peter, Rymz in a duo with Laurence Nerbonne, and Saratoga.

The annual Québec recording and live concert industry celebration continues on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Place des Arts’ Salle Wilfrid Pelletier, with the main gala presentation, to be hosted for the twelfth time by comedian Louis-José Houde and televised live on ICI Radio-Canada Télé.
