Alessia Cara, The Weeknd, Leonard Cohen each earn 2018 Grammy Awards

SOCAN members Alessia Cara, The Weeknd, and the late Leonard Cohen have each won an honour at the 60th annual Grammy Awards, held Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, and broadcast live, worldwide, from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

A four-time nominee, Cara won New Artist of the Year, and performed “1-800-273-8255,” with Logic and Khalid, on the gala Grammy stage during the broadcast. The Weeknd’s Starboy earned a Grammy for Urban Contemporary Album of the Year, while Leonard Cohen received a posthumous honour in the Rock Performance category, for “You Want It Darker.”

Although not directly nominated for a Grammy Award, SOCAN members Michael Bublé and kd lang both performed on the compilation album Tony Bennett Celebrates 90, which won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Though he didn’t take home the hardware, SOCAN member Daniel Caesar earned two major-category Grammy nominations, in the R&B Performance field for "Get You" (featuring Kali Uchis), and in the R&B Album grouping, for his debut full-length recording, Freudian.
